Sort profiles into groups

How a profile gets into a group
On the Profiles screen, tick the profiles and press Move to group in the bar above the list. For one profile the same item sits in its right-click menu.
The window offers No group and your groups in the order of the Groups screen, and Move applies the choice. A new profile can get its group straight away, from the Group field of the New profile window.
Changing the name and colour
The pencil on a card opens Edit group with the same Name and Color fields. The profiles stay where they are, and the list picks up the new name and colour.
The arrows on a card move it up or down. That order is the one the Groups screen, the Move to group window and the Group field of the New profile window use.
How a group shows in the profile list
In the grid, a profile card carries a Group line with the group's name. In the table view, the Group column shows the name next to a dot in the group's colour.
Clicking a group card on the Groups screen opens Profiles with that group's profiles and a Group chip with its name above the list. Clicking the chip takes that filter off.
The All groups list above the profiles gives the same filter: it holds the groups that have profiles, in alphabetical order, and No group.
Deleting a group
The bin on a card deletes the group after a confirmation. Its profiles are kept and move to No group, and nothing goes to the recycle bin.
Sessions, proxies and fingerprints of those profiles stay as they were. Deleting a group changes which group they are in and nothing else.
If you are signed in and the group already exists in the account, deleting it here leaves the group there alone, and at the next app start or sign-in the group comes back with the profiles from the account.
When a profile moves to another computer
Transfer with session writes the group into the file by name and colour. On the other computer the profile lands in the group of the same name, even when the letter case there differs, and the group is created if there is none.
Duplicate puts the copy in the same group as the original. A spreadsheet import with a Group column creates the missing groups by name.
Groups in the account and in a team
Groups are made and changed on this computer. When you are signed in, a profile sent to the account takes its group along, and a group of the same name is created there.
Another computer signed into that account puts such a profile into a group of that name, and creates the group if it has none.
In a team the owner and admins manage groups, and other roles see the screen without its buttons. Which groups a colleague can see is set on the Members screen, as the page on who sees which profiles explains.
What this does not do
- It does not carry a rename or a deletion to the account. Those change this computer, and a group already in the account keeps its name there.
- It does not put a profile into two groups. A profile has one group or none.
- It does not decide on its own who sees a profile. In a team that is set per group on the Members screen.
- It does not delete profiles along with a group. They stay.
Where this is decided
The claims that carry the most weight, with the stand that checks each of them.
- Clicking a group card narrows the profile list to that group
- apps/desktop/test/поиск-и-отборы.js
- The number on a group card matches the click filter, the All groups list is built from the same groups, and a group name is matched without regard to letter case in a transfer
- apps/desktop/test/группы-один-признак.js
- The group chosen in the New profile window reaches the profile, also when you are signed in
- apps/desktop/test/группа-при-создании.js
- The group travels in the transfer file by name and colour and is created on the other computer
- apps/desktop/test/перенос-не-теряет-полей.js
- A profile sent to the account finds a group of the same name there or creates one, without a twin
- apps/desktop/test/csv-import-groups.js
- The order of groups is kept on this computer and survives a restart
- apps/desktop/test/rules-and-runs.js
Questions
- Can a profile be in two groups at once?
- No. A profile has one group or none, and tags are the way to mark it several ways at once.
- The window says a group with this name already exists.
- Names are compared without regard to letter case, so Clients and clients count as one. Pick another name or use the group you already have.
- I do not see the New group button.
- Your role in the workspace is below Admin, and the line above the cards says so. Ask the owner or an admin to create the group.
- What happens to profiles when I delete a group?
- They stay with their sessions, proxies and fingerprints and move to No group.
- Does the group travel with a profile to another computer?
- Yes, inside the Transfer with session file. It travels by name and colour: on the other computer the profile lands in the group of that name whatever its letter case, and the group is created if there is none.
