Browser profile
A browser profile is a separate browser with its own cookies, its own device values and its own way out to the network.
One profile is one browser
A profile is a browser session of its own rather than a tab. It opens with a folder of its own, and everything the engine keeps goes there: cookies, storage, cache, saved sign-ins and history.
Nothing crosses between two of those folders. The browser is pointed at one of them and never learns that the other exists.
What a profile carries
Name and group
For you, so that a hundred rows stay readable.
Use case
Sets the opening address, the tracker lists and the daily action counters.
Device template
macOS, Windows, Linux or an Android phone or tablet.
Proxy
Its own way out, kept as a copy inside the profile itself.

Which browser version opens it on this machine.

Where the profile opens, checked while you type it.
The number is the machine
Every profile has a number, and that number is the seed its device values grow from. Nothing about the machine is stored: screen, cores, memory, graphics card and fonts are worked out from the number and the template on every start.

What travels and what stays
Signing in on a second computer brings the profile and its settings. What keeps it logged in stays where it was made, because that is hundreds of megabytes of browser databases.
Moving that is a separate decision: a sealed transfer file, or a folder your own cloud already keeps in step.
Often confused with
A profile in an ordinary browser
It keeps cookies apart for convenience. The screen, the graphics card, the fonts and the exit address stay shared.
A container tab
Storage is separated inside one browser window and nothing else is.
A user account on the computer
It separates people at the desk rather than accounts at a site, and one exit address still serves them all.
The account itself
The profile is the workplace. What you are signed into inside it is a different thing entirely.
What this does not do
- A profile is not an identity you buy. It is a browser the app keeps apart from your other browsers, and what happens inside it stays your work.
- It does not make two accounts look unrelated while both leave through one address.
- It does not carry its sign-ins to a second computer by itself. That move is deliberate and it has a button of its own.
- A profile in the recycle bin keeps its whole folder on disk until you erase it for good.

Questions
- How many profiles do I need?
- One for every account you want kept apart. Two accounts inside one profile share its cookies and are read as one person.
- Does a copy get the same machine?
- No. A copy takes the same settings and a machine of its own, because two profiles describing one computer are tied to each other more tightly than by anything else.
- Can I choose the number myself?
- The number is issued when the profile is created. It arrives from elsewhere only inside a transfer file, and then it has to travel together with the session.
- How many can be open at once?
- As many as this computer's memory allows, and the number is on the engine screen. Reaching it refuses to open one more and never closes what is already open.
- I edited an open profile and nothing changed.
- Proxy, use case and device changes apply the next time it starts, and the app says so when you save.
