There is no team seat for you on the current plan of the workspace owner
What a team seat is
A seat is your place in a workspace that belongs to another person. You joined it by invitation, and from that minute the plan you work under is theirs and not yours.
The profile quota, the machines you may sign in on and the folders you can see all come from that one account. This is why a team costs less than a separate subscription each.
The seat is weighed every time
Joining is not a single count made once and kept forever. Opening a profile, creating one and holding one open each ask the question again.
The answer follows the owner's plan as it stands at that second. It changes on the day their plan changes and not a day earlier.
When a seat goes away
Either the owner's plan carries fewer seats than the team needs, or the period paid for under it runs out. The owner takes one seat himself, so the number of colleagues who fit is one below the seats bought.
Cancelling a subscription does not take your seat the same day. Time already paid for lives out its last day, and the seat ends when that time does.
Who keeps a seat when there are fewer
When the team is larger than the plan, the seats stay with the people who joined earliest. The order is fixed by the date of joining and is not reshuffled between attempts.
So the reason is usually nothing more than this: you are the newest person in the workspace.
The profiles are still there
This is not a removal from the team. Your membership stands, the profiles opened to you are open still, and the list on screen is the one you saw yesterday.
A window already open is not closed by this line either. The hold on that profile stops being extended, so a few minutes later the profile goes back to the team.
Nothing is erased
What this refusal covers
Three requests are answered this way: opening a profile, creating one inside the owner's quota, and holding one open while you work.
It reaches every profile you can touch, the ones you brought with you included, because the question is about your seat rather than about a profile.
What the workspace owner does
Seats are chosen and paid for where the plans are listed, and they are counted one per person.
Nothing has to be issued again afterwards. The membership never went anywhere, so the next attempt simply goes through.
What this article does not cover
- Being removed from the team. That takes back granted access and moves the profiles made inside the workspace, and none of it happens here.
- A profile that sits beyond the paid profile quota. The line there names the plan and the number instead of the team.
- A machine unlinked from the account. That refusal is about the computer you are sitting at.
- How many seats each plan carries and what a seat costs. Those numbers live on the pricing page.
Where this is decided
- A seat follows the plan in force, and work resumes as soon as the plan carries it again
- apps/server/test/team-money-seats.js
- The seat is asked about again on every open, every create and every hold
- apps/server/src/profiles/profiles.service.ts
- The owner holds one seat and the rest stay with those who joined earlier in a stable order
- apps/server/src/common/workspace/workspace.service.ts
- A cancelled plan holds to the end of the period already paid for and then falls to free
- packages/shared/src/index.js · apps/desktop/test/paid-time-not-taken.js
- A hold that is no longer extended runs out, and the profile goes back to the team

- Seats bought one by one reach the screen instead of being guessed from the plan name

Questions
- Have I been removed from the team?
- No. Your membership stands, and so does every folder and every profile that was opened to you.
- Does the owner see the same line?
- No. In his own workspace the owner holds a seat at all times, and his own work goes on as it went.
- Will a new invitation be needed?
- No. Once the plan carries the seat again the next attempt goes through, and there is nothing else to do.
- Can I go back to a plan of my own?
- Leaving is done on the Team tab of the dashboard on the site, under the list of members. Profiles created inside the workspace stay with the account that paid for them, and the ones you brought with you leave with you.
