Share a profile

You can share a profile with someone in your team: they start it from their own computer, and you decide whether they can change its settings. The path is Share with the team in the profile menu. Use it when a colleague works in the profile and you stay its owner.

Three access levels

Each person you share a profile with has their own level. Someone new gets Can start, and you give edit access yourself when it is needed.

LevelWhat it allows
Can startStarts and uses the profile. Sees its settings but cannot change them.
Can editAlso changes the name, proxy, notes, tags, status and other settings, turns extensions on, makes a copy and saves cookies to a file.
Full accessAlso moves the profile to another group and shares it with other people in your team.

What stays with the owner

Only the profile's owner or an admin can delete it, set its password or give it a new fingerprint. Only the account owner, or an admin they allowed, can give it to another account. Admins and the team owner always have full access to a profile shared with them. Only the profile's owner can transfer it to another computer with its session or save it to a file with Export.

Share the profile with a colleague

The dialog changes only the people you ticked, unticked or gave a new level: access given from another computer stays as it is. The same dialog opens from the Share with the team button on the profile's row in your account on the website.

If the profile is in a group that is closed to a colleague, they would not see it, so the dialog does not save the share and names their address. Open that group to them first, or move the profile to a group they can see.

What your colleague sees

In their list the profile is marked shared with you · can start, shared with you · can edit or shared with you · full access, and the owner is named next to it.

With Can start the profile window opens read-only: the fields are visible but switched off, and the owner is named at the top. Actions the level does not allow stay in the menu, greyed out, with the reason on a second line under them. The Copy and Test proxy buttons in that window still work; for a member or an operator the proxy password is left out of the copied line, because a team manager hands it out.

An action on several selected profiles at once, such as status, tags, proxy, moving to a group or deleting, goes through where it is allowed, and the app names the other profiles in one line.

If you lower the level while their edit window is open, their change is not saved: the app puts your settings back and tells them with one notification.

Change a level or take access away

Open the same dialog: each ticked person shows their current level. Change it in the list or untick the box, then click Save. Unticking takes access away, and the profile disappears from their list at the next sync.

Someone with full access sees the same list as you, with Owner and You rows at the top. They cannot change their own level or the owner's.

Remove a shared profile from your list

A colleague who no longer needs the profile chooses Remove from my list in the profile menu. The owner keeps the profile, and only the owner or someone with full access can share it again. The profile password is not needed for this.

Cookies, session and fingerprint

The settings and the fingerprint travel with the profile. Hand-picked fingerprint values and a chosen browser version stay on the computer where they were set: your colleague's copy starts without them, and the sharing dialog warns the owner about it.

Cookies and logins stay with each person unless you both sync sessions through the same folder. With Can start the session comes from the folder, but your colleague's changes stay on their computer.

Hand-picked fingerprint values and the browser version cannot be set on someone else's profile at any level: otherwise one profile would look like different computers to websites.

What this does not do

  • It does not give the profile away. You stay the owner, and moving it to another account is a separate step.
  • It does not hand out library proxy passwords. A colleague with edit access who is not a manager or an admin can pick from the library only a proxy without a password or one already on a profile shared with them.
  • It does not pass the proxy password on through a copy. When a member or operator duplicates the profile, saves a template from its window or sends its session to the folder, the address, port and login carry over, the password does not, and ARMANOS says so.
  • It does not share the profile with people outside your workspace.

Where this is decided

Every claim above is one place in the code and one test.

A level on every share, editing by level, sharing by difference, moving and library proxies

The mark with the level, the read-only window, greyed items with a reason and Remove from my list in the app

Changes made without the right do not hang or get resent, and the cleanup after the update writes History

The sharing dialog with levels and batches that name what they skipped, in your account on the website

A profile in a group closed to a colleague is not shared with them, and a move at the same moment does not get around it

The proxy password does not go into a member's or operator's copy, template or folder session

Questions

Which level should a freelancer get?
Can start: they work in the profile, and the settings, proxy and fingerprint stay yours. Give edit access to someone who runs the profile themselves.
What happened to profiles shared earlier?
Every earlier share is Can start. Starting works as before, but turning extensions on, making a copy, sending the session to the shared folder and saving cookies to a file now need Can edit. Only the owner can now transfer the profile to another computer with its session or save it to a file. Admins and the team owner have full access. You give edit access in the same dialog.
My colleague sees The change was not saved. Why?
The level was lowered while their window was open. Their change is undone, and the profile has the owner's settings again.
My colleague sees that the profile is no longer shared with them. Why?
Access was taken away while their edit window was open. Their change is not saved, and the profile leaves their list at the next sync.
My colleague sees Your changes to other people's profiles were removed. What is that?
After the update the app does this once: it removes changes to other people's profiles that the server never accepted. What they changed is in the profile's History on their computer, except proxy logins and passwords.
