Screen and window check

A site reads the screen size and the window size as two plain numbers and compares them. A window wider than the declared screen describes a machine that does not exist, and this check shows both pairs the way a site sees them.

The numbers below are read from your browser on this page and are not sent anywhere.

What a site compares

The screen comes from the system, the window from the browser, and on their own both numbers are ordinary. A site puts them in one line: a window cannot be wider than the screen it opened on.

The difference between the window inside and outside is the browser frame, and that has ordinary values too.

Where an impossible pair comes from

A profile declares a screen from its list, while the window opens on your real monitor. A window maximised on a large monitor easily turns out wider than a small declared screen.

The bigger the monitor, the more often the gap.

What ARMANOS does

A profile window stays inside the declared screen: the program asks for a size no larger than the profile's screen and does not hand a remembered desktop size to a phone profile.

The Fingerprint self-test inside the program (profile menu > Test fingerprint) compares the window with the screen as a separate row, «Window fits the screen», for now only on profiles with touch.

How to compare two profiles

Open this page in two profiles and put the rows side by side. The screens of the profiles have to differ, and the «window fits the screen» row has to answer yes in both.

What this check does not show

  • Pixel ratio on phones and scaled laptops is read as is: that is a property of the machine, not a mismatch.
  • A second monitor. A window dragged to another screen shows that screen's numbers, and the comparison belongs on the monitor where the window is open.
  • Window size after changing page zoom. Zoom changes the number of points in the window, and the check is worth repeating.

Where this is decided

The readings are measured in your browser, and the promises below are backed by files you can open.

Readings on the page come from an allowed list rather than running anything

Questions

Why is the window outside larger than inside?
Outside counts the frame, tabs and address bar of the browser. Inside counts only the page area.
What does «no» in the last row mean?
The window inside is wider or taller than the declared screen. Such a pair does not occur on a real machine.
Are the numbers sent anywhere?
No. The page reads them from the browser and shows them to you; it makes no outbound requests.

Two profiles give two different answers

In ARMANOS these values are decided inside the browser engine before the page gets anything. Open two profiles, run the check in both and compare.
